I have been learning German with Duolingo for some time now. I have a streak of 815 days.

I don’t think it is particularly effective but it is better than nothing and it doesn’t take a lot of time. I also find it fun and sometimes I watch a show or a movie in German and I can understand a bit.

My mom is learning English. I showed her the app when she came visit for Thanksgiving and she is hooked. I like doing quests together and congratulating her when she completes a challenge. She sometimes sends me a small gift on the app and I will send her one in exchange.

It is a small way to keep in touch across the Atlantic.
